This configuration is powered by a 21.5 HP Kawasaki FR651V V-Twin engine with 726cc displacement. The twin-cylinder engine provides smooth power for regular residential mowing and is paired with dual hydrostatic transmissions for independent rear-wheel control.
The mower features a 42-inch steel cutting deck with two blades. Its narrower deck makes it easier to work around landscaping, gates, trees, and tighter sections of a yard while still covering considerably more ground than a walk-behind mower.
Dual hydrostatic transmissions provide true zero-turn maneuverability. The lap-bar controls allow each rear wheel to be controlled independently, making tight turns and precise directional changes possible without the larger turning radius of a conventional lawn tractor. Forward speed reaches up to approximately 7 mph, while reverse speed is approximately 3.5 mph.
The mower is built around a 2-inch by 2-inch tubular steel frame with corrosion protection for additional durability. Cub Cadet also equips the ZT1 42 with an adjustable high-back seat, LED headlights, integrated parking brake controls, and an open-frame design that provides easier access to service areas.
Cutting height can be adjusted across 15 deck positions, with a maximum cutting height of approximately 4.5 inches, allowing the mower to adapt to different grass conditions throughout the season.
