The DR Power PRO XLSP is a heavy-duty walk-behind string trimmer designed for areas that are difficult to maintain with a conventional lawn mower or handheld trimmer. It is intended for tall grass, dense weeds, fence lines, rough terrain, field edges, and other overgrown areas around a property.
Power comes from a 201cc DR OHV engine producing approximately 10.3 ft-lb of torque. The engine uses an automatic choke and push-button electric starting, while a recoil starter provides a manual backup.
The trimmer cuts a 22-inch swath and provides five adjustable cutting heights from 1.5 to 3.5 inches. Its cord-attachment system allows the cutting height and trimming cord to be changed without tools.
Unlike DR’s standard PRO XL model, the PRO XLSP is self-propelled. Its variable-speed drive allows ground speeds from approximately 0 to 3 mph, helping the operator move across slopes and rougher terrain without having to push the full weight of the machine.
The offset frame allows the cutting head to work close to fences, foundations, walls, and other obstacles, while the cast-aluminum nose plate helps protect the front of the machine from contact during trimming.
DR also equips this model with a clutch-brake system that can stop the cutting head while allowing the engine to continue running, making it easier to pause when crossing driveways or moving between trimming areas.
