The Honda HRX217VKA is a premium residential self-propelled lawn mower designed around Honda’s GCV200 engine, 21-inch NeXite cutting deck, and variable-speed Select Drive system.
Its Honda GCV200 OHC engine provides the power for routine residential mowing while using an automatic choke system for straightforward starting. The mower uses a recoil starter and a fixed-throttle configuration.
Honda’s Select Drive system allows the operator to adjust the mower’s propulsion speed to match their walking pace. Honda lists a ground-speed range of approximately 0 to 3.6 mph in its current comparison specifications, although some dealer materials for this production series round the maximum to 4 mph.
The mower features a 21-inch NeXite deck, a durable polymer material that does not use a conventional steel deck construction. Honda pairs it with its MicroCut twin-blade system, which uses two blades to produce smaller grass clippings for mulching and bagging.
Honda’s Versamow System with Clip Director provides four primary mowing functions: mulching, bagging, rear discharge, and leaf shredding. The Clip Director has 10 positions, allowing the operator to adjust how much material is mulched or directed into the grass bag without changing separate mower attachments.
Cutting height ranges from 0.75 to 4 inches across seven positions. The mower also includes four 9-inch ball-bearing wheels and a folding steel-tube handle with three height positions.
